I love breakfasts... Really LOVE them! If I had the possibility to eat only one sweet meal all day long, I would do it with pleasure. Nothing excites me more on Sunday morning than smelling breakfast cooking.
When I organize brunch at home, it often translates into pastries like brioche/chocolate croissants with scrambled eggs and potato pancakes or pancakes. It takes a bit of time to make, but with good organization there's a way to prepare everything the day before and have minimal things to do when you wake up. It's fatty, friendly, but generally you don't do anything else for the rest of the day while digesting!
I love it, but today I just wanted to make myself a breakfast that gets out of routine without spending the rest of the day dragging myself from chair to chair. So I gave in to the current trend that we see flourishing on Pinterest: porridge!
A quick note about porridge
Porridge (or "porridge" in English, which is basically the same thing...) is a mixture of cereals that you cook in water or milk for about ten minutes to make it swell and that you add sweet or savory elements to give it some zing.
For my first time, I followed the recipe from Cléa, the specialist of the genre, with a mixture of spelt/oat flakes. I added half a banana, 4 squares of grated chocolate and crushed hazelnuts!
For the hazelnuts, I recommend toasting them to bring out the flavor. And since it's Sunday morning and we don't want to stress about it, we just pop them in the microwave for a minute and we're done!
Regarding the result, no need for long speeches, it's simple, light, gourmet and original! The perfect combo for a laid-back Sunday morning that packs a punch! I think I'll repeat the concept often (I'm already thinking of a red fruit/white chocolate/almond version).
So see you next Sunday!
Porridge banana, chocolate, hazelnuts
Instructions
- 1
Weigh the cereals and heat them slowly in a saucepan with the milk (the mixture should not boil).
- 2
Meanwhile, put the hazelnuts in the microwave at maximum power for about a minute.
- 3
Slice the banana, grate the chocolate and crush the hazelnuts.
- 4
Once the porridge has thickened well (depending on your taste, I like it not too runny but others prefer it more liquid), pour it into a bowl.
- 5
Add the sweet elements and enjoy!
