Strawberry Rum Speculoos Tiramisu

It's quite rare that I'm offered products to test. That's a shame because I love trying new things and giving my opinion (especially when I'm not asked to ^^ !). So when Galbani offered to send me 2 boxes of their quick tiramisu preparation Delizioso, I jumped at the opportunity. Only afterwards did I remember that I DON'T LIKE tiramisu... Well, more precisely, I don't like coffee and so I'd never really explored the concept much further. In the end I don't regret it because it pushed me to go off the beaten path and find an alternative to test the preparation. And after some research, I opted for this strawberry rum speculoos tiramisu.

By the way, apparently tiramisu (which means "cheer me up" in Italian) is the favorite dessert of the French. I'll never understand the world's passion for coffee!

The package I received contained 2 boxes (milk carton style) of Galbani quick tiramisu preparation. Usually, I don't really like this kind of ready-made preparation. Not out of purism or snobbery because honestly it can come in handy, but because I don't like not knowing what's in it. With self-rising flour for example, it's impossible to know the yeast/flour ratio. Thanks a lot for saving time when you spend 20 minutes adapting your recipe…

Here, I was pleasantly surprised. The ingredients are clearly displayed on the side of the box: you can tell there's no funny business. Ok, let's be honest, it's powdered milk and a few preservatives, it will never replace fresh products. But I wanted to highlight the real effort made to be transparent about ingredient labeling!

I was also supposed to have a recipe book but my package didn't contain one. So I went to search on Galbani's website and chose this recipe for quick and easy strawberry tiramisu. Except I skimmed the recipe and didn't see that it contained peach juice. Of course when I got home, I didn't have that in my cupboards (the more attentive ones among you will have noticed that oddly, with rum it's never been a problem… ^^). So I had to fall back on another recipe which I adapted with the Galbani preparation.

Still, I really enjoyed Galbani's recipe website. I thought it was cool to be able to automatically adjust proportions based on the number of servings. In fact, I'd really like to implement a calculator like that here. Plus, I really discovered a whole new world of tiramisu possibilities. After all, coffee is far from being essential and it made me reconsider my judgment of this dessert.

In any case I really loved this strawberry/speculoos version. Purists will probably find my strawberry/cream/biscuit ratio a bit imbalanced… And it's true that next time I'll add a bit more fruit. As for the Galbani preparation, I found it pleasant to taste, not artificial. I think if I hadn't known I wouldn't have guessed it was a ready-made preparation (but again I'm a tiramisu noob…). I also found it very simple to use, in 5 minutes it whipped up perfectly. Besides, I think the original recipe with fresh products isn't very long to make, but it's rather that you're never quite sure about the consistency. This time for my first attempt, I didn't question anything, it held together very well. To see if it was a lucky strike or if it will be confirmed over time (I still have one and a half cartons to use) but I imagine it's dosed to reduce the risk of cream that's too runny (which seems to be the tricky part of any tiramisu).

I also appreciated the shelf life. I don't know about you, but every time I buy mascarpone, it's past its date before I get a chance to make my recipe… I find it really nice to have on hand a preparation that keeps until July: super convenient for unexpected guests! I find the product isn't cheap (€3.90 for 500g) but it's also the price of peace of mind. Pretty happy with this test overall and delighted to have broadened my tiramisu horizons! Can't wait to test other recipes, I've already spotted this mint/chocolate version that's catching my eye.
