Sometimes, the simplest things are the best. I don't know if it's the approach of Easter, but my chocolate addiction is back in full force! So when it comes to unwinding after a difficult week, nothing better than a good little chocolate lava cake to clear my head! Plus, no complicated ingredients or technique. Just mix all the ingredients and in 25 minutes, you get a lava cake that's irresistible!
I followed the recipe from the Aux Fourneaux blog, and I made the lava cake in a loaf pan. I hesitated to make the recipe twice and I should have because I found the cake a bit flat (so I was forced to have two slices... whistles). But other than that it was really delicious and I'm going to keep this recipe carefully.
Since my microwave passed away (rest in peace its waves!) I opted for a double boiler to melt my chocolate. But boy was it long! You might spend more time melting the chocolate than making the whole recipe!
Yet normally the most complicated thing about lava cakes is controlling the texture. Since I wanted to transport the cake, I pushed the cooking a bit to have a cake that holds together well. But if you like runny centers and you plan to eat it at home, do like Manuella and cook it a bit less than me (or wait a moment for it to cool so you can unmold it without breaking it).
In any case, my friends who were lucky enough to have a slice of this chocolate lava cake loved it!
And before I give you the recipe instructions, a small digression about a great initiative I'm following right now. It's a MOOC (free online training accessible to everyone) launched by Ferrandi: Culinary Trends: Evolutions, Scenarios and Innovation. It's free, fascinating and super interactive (a large community shares its inspiration boards on Facebook). If you're interested in the culinary field, go for it! It's not every day that you have such quality content accessible so easily!
