I believe you have been able to see throughout my articles that I try to pay real attention to local and quality products. But in truth I have a bit of difficulty using fruits in my desserts especially in winter. So when Charlotte contacted me to present her interactive infographic on seasonal fruits and vegetables, I saw it as a sign that I needed to take it more seriously. By calendar coincidence, I returned from Normandy with a big bag of apples from my parents' garden and my recipe for the day was already found: the baked apples.
I would be quite unable to tell you what variety of apples I used since they come from my parents' garden. I picked them from the tree and how much I miss working with products that haven't traveled 300 km or more to reach me.
The apple (especially those from our garden) is one of my favorite fruits. When I was in high school, I would systematically take a detour through the vegetable garden to have a taste. It was my little end-of-afternoon pleasure. You couldn't get fresher than that and I admit to you that once or twice I almost ate a bug (in truth I think the other times I didn't notice ^^).
So admittedly, baked apples are not a super aesthetic dessert but it's a simple, quick dessert and so delicious that I find we quickly accommodate its rustic side. I still tried to make it a bit more graphic by adding hazelnut shards and it was just killer! To add a little exotic touch, I drizzled with lacuite syrup, a little memory from Réunion. But at home you can use honey or maple syrup.

So there you have it, there's not always a need to overthink it or make hyper-caloric desserts to enjoy cooking!
